The 2022/23 Campus KOL Training Programme worked with ten secondary schools and engaged 139 Form 1 to Form 4 students in a fully face-to-face, community-based language learning experience. Students became young storytellers of local culture, using research, interviews, writing, filming, editing and web design to transform food culture and everyday neighbourhood observations into food reviews and community videos.

• Food review workshops: research, interviewing and persuasive writing based on local food culture.
• Community video workshops: story planning, composition, mobile filming, voice-over, subtitles and editing.
• Web-design workshops: combining text, photographs and videos in a personal webpage for public sharing.
• Peer review, public voting and awards: learning from other students’ work and audience feedback.

October 2022 to August 2023

• Ten schools and 139 students: all three workshop series were completed face to face, covering food-review writing, community video production and web design.
• Over Fifty student works: projects explored local food, neighbourhood change, parks, public spaces and school life, and were published online for public viewing and voting.
• Fourteen awards across two categories: Community Food Review and Community Short Film each included Champion, First and Second Runner-up, Most Creative, Best Humour, Outstanding Community Heritage and People’s Choice awards.
• Student feedback: 90% of respondents were satisfied overall with the food-review workshops; 74% were satisfied overall with the community video and web-design workshops, and about 71% agreed that the programme developed multi-perspective thinking and analysis.
• In-person celebration: students, parents and teachers reviewed the year’s learning and creative achievements at the award ceremony held at the Hong Kong Scout Centre on 18 August 2023.

Selected works included Mr Bao, Stories and Sentiments of Hong Kong, Old District vs New District and Wan Chai Park Travelogue. Peer viewing, public voting and the awards process gave students authentic audience feedback and strengthened revision, presentation and appreciation of others’ work.
