The 2021/22 Campus KOL Training Programme brought together language learning, community exploration and multimedia production. Secondary students learned to research and develop ideas, write food reviews and travelogues, and present neighbourhood stories through photographs, videos and personal webpages. Discussion, hands-on practice and peer sharing strengthened their reading, writing, speaking, teamwork and digital communication skills.

This program is designed to combine language learning with community exploration, creating a dynamic and engaging environment for students. It pursues four key objectives:

(i) To strengthen students' reading, writing, and analytical abilities by guiding them to gather information and produce travelogues, biographical sketches, and food reviews.

(ii) To foster critical thinking and a spirit of inquiry through direct community visits and interviews with local residents.

(iii) To build practical skills in writing, photography, videography, and public speaking through the production of multimedia content.

(iv) To increase students' interest in using and expressing language by encouraging peer sharing and collaborative learning activities.

September 2021 to August 2022

Year highlights

• Ten secondary schools took part, with 149 Form 1 to Form 4 students completing the community video and web-design workshops.
• 85% of students were satisfied with the course and activities, while 83% agreed that the programme improved their multimedia software skills.
• 73% reported stronger speaking and communication skills, and 75% said they were more willing to appreciate and explore their communities and traditional culture.
• All surveyed teachers were satisfied with the programme and agreed that it strengthened students’ language, teamwork and multimedia abilities.

Although some sessions moved online during the pandemic, students still completed video planning, filming, editing and personal webpage production, then shared their work for peer learning.
